Hello writers, and welcome to the Craft & Community Roundup! I'm Hope, coming to you from WritingWorkshops.com, where we've been building a global community of writers since 2016. Today, I'm thrilled to highlight four amazing workshops we're offering between Saturday, May 24th, and Sunday, June 1st, that might just be the creative spark your summer needs!
First up on Saturday, May 24th, we have The Multi-Passionate Writer's Life with the incredible Courtney Kocak. As someone who's juggled multiple writing projects myself, I can't recommend this three-hour session enough! Courtney brings serious credentials to the table—her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and she's worked on Amazon's Emmy-winning "Danger & Eggs." Plus, her podcasts have over two million downloads! You'll learn how to balance multiple creative pursuits and develop diverse income streams. Her practical approach to creative sustainability is exactly what writers need.
Starting Wednesday, May 28th, we have our Introduction to Memoir 10-week workshop. This is one of our most popular offerings! I love how it's designed with flexibility in mind—mostly asynchronous with just three live Zoom sessions throughout the course. Our instructor, Blaise Allysen Kearsley, is absolutely phenomenal. As a Black-biracial writer, her perspective is invaluable, and her work has appeared in Catapult, Longreads, Electric Literature, and the Boston Globe. Jennifer Stewart, who took this class last year, said the class with Blaise made her a stronger writer, and it was the hardest workshop she's ever done, but also one of the most important. The way Blaise creates community even in a virtual environment is something special. Each week explores different aspects of memoir craft with diverse readings and prompts that will transform how you approach personal narrative.
For our poets, starting June 1st, we have The Grotesque and the Abject, a four-week generative intensive with Javeria Hasnain that runs Sundays from 11AM-1PM Eastern. This workshop challenges writers to explore what Javeria describes as "disgust in desire, grotesque in godly, and death in life." Her background as a Pakistani poet and Fulbright scholar brings a truly global perspective. Even if you're not typically drawn to these themes, the techniques for embodying language will revolutionize your approach to poetry.
Also beginning June 1st, we have The Writer as Obsessive: Writing the Pop Culture Essay with Elizabeth Teets. This four-week course is perfect for anyone wanting to blend personal narrative with cultural commentary. Elizabeth's work in the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, and her anthology, Isn’t She Great: Writers on Women-Led Comedies from 9 to 5 to Booksmart, makes her the ideal guide. What I love about this workshop is its clear progression: by the final session, you'll have both a completed essay and a killer pitch for publication. Several of our past students have placed their essays in major publications after taking this course!
At WritingWorkshops.com, we're committed to expert-led instruction in supportive environments. Whether you're just starting out or ready to take your craft to the next level, these workshops provide the guidance, accountability, and community that every writer needs.
Registration is open now at WritingWorkshops.com. Spaces fill quickly, especially for the smaller workshops, so don't wait!
Until next time, I'm Hope, wishing you inspired writing and meaningful connections.
